    Private Party Transfer Questions

    Hello All,

I have some questions regarding private party transfer sales and purchasing that I am just not sure of. I know you have to go to an FFL and fill out the proper paperwork and DROS 10 day background check wait blah blah. What I am curious about is, is there anything I should be looking out for? Do I pay up front? Whats common practice? Whats safe practice?

Any hints tips and personal experience will help! Thank you!

Most people pay the seller at my shop after dros is complete, for me in the store but for some stores they don't like that so outside the store

I am an FFL in Rancho Cucamonga! https://www.2azone.com
We have 2011 single shot pistols available!

We have Atlas gun works single shot 2011 available! If it is on their website we can get it for you.

We have single shot AR pistols in stock!

I actually sent your location an email the other day asking about Off-Roster guns that you had on your site and if you had any in stock! My friend has purchased a few firearms from you!

Thats also solid information, so don't normally pay till After Dros has been completed.

Check with your seller before meeting up.
The seller may insist on payment before DROS is completed.

Make sure you have all of your needed paperwork ahead of time.
        Do you have RealID?
        Address is current?
        Do you have your FSC?

I actually dont have an ID that has any thing on it ( I got my ID PRIOR to those laws ) this year I have to get a new one cause the deadline is this year. I also have a CCW so the FSC is not required I am exempt. The rest of the stuff is easy.

Usually buyer and seller meets inside the FFL. Seller hands the firearm inside a case to the FFL where they will open it up and make sure it's cleared. Buyer handles and looks at it. If you like it, then you give your CDL, FSC and car registration to FFL and you start the DROS. After finishing your paperwork, you pay the seller at the same time you pay for the DROS. Most FFL's don't have any issues with money being exchanged inside their store but you can always hand over an envelope with the money inside.

              OP:

ALWAYS, WITHOUT FAIL, contact proposed FFL where the transfer is to occur before hand. And ask if they "RELEASE ON UNDETERMINED STATUS"?

              If they say NO.

              Politely tell them to F-off.

              And find one that does.

Sounds about right. Been told not to transfer money inside the store a couple times (out of 40-50ish...as I recall one was mom and pop shop and the other was a Turners). I just try to be discreet at FFLs I haven't dealt with before as to not rub anyone's nose in it if they are opposed to it. Not having a CCW, I much prefer the transaction happens in a place with security cameras, armed employees, etc as opposed to "come on over to my trunk with your $2,000"...

                  1. Inspection (either inside or parking lot depend on that FFL's policy)
                  2. Payment (either inside or parking lot depends on that FFL's policy)
                  3. Paperwork

Personally I will not start the paperwork without receiving payment.

Once paperwork is started , is too late for me.

What everyone else said, if you’re gonna have lots of cash it doesn’t hurt to have an armed friend show up separately first and watch from afar...
