    Firearm Temporary Storage Question

Is it possible to store rifles in their cases for around 7 - 10 days without rust or corrosion worry? Cases are a mix of hard and soft types with a layer of foam (not cut out for rifle). The cases rifles will be in a dry interior space. Should I add a desiccant pack (where to get those)? Any other temporary storage tips?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Edit: This one is out of stock, but Amazon has many choices.

I can't answer for the amount of time, but I would place the guns in a silicone gun sock and add a pack of desiccant.

Too many variables to know how long. In the summer is CoCo county I wouldn't think it would be an issue. This time of year not a chance in hell with the amount of moisture in the air without an additional layer of protection.

Unless you're in SE Asia during monsoon season, it shouldn't be a problem. Oil them up good. I've had guns in cases for years, and I live close to the ocean.

Humidity is the enemy. Dessicant packs, dehumidifiers, anything that gets rid of moisture will go a long way. I will say that I have stored my bolt action in a rifle case in my closet without any dessicant, dehumidifier, etc. for months without issue. I live in San Francisco, but not by the ocean.

            What he says^^^^^^

Most important thing is that guns are cleaned and oiled before storage. A few days, or even weeks in normal dry storage do not cause any rust on guns if they are well oiled with no finger prints on them.

Some case padding will release corrosive off gasses that can damage firearms. If you must keep them in cases, apply CLP or other protectant and that will help.

Have multiple firearms in a sealed tube well oiled and in silicone socks
                Check every couple years
                No issues

My opinion, based on moving arms across the country in a vehicle, and other short-term storage in varying conditions:

As long as they aren't already rusting, and you have them free of fingerprints and other corrosives on the surface, a good wipe down before storage, and they will be fine for weeks.

I done this in both softcases and foam-lined hard cases, with and without gun socks. Never an issue unless you put them in a case, after hunting in a downpour, and let them sit a day or two. Then you might need to rub the surface rust off of your Remington 870.
