For ammo background check can I give my old address?

I haven't bought any guns at my new address. When I buy ammo can I just give my old address or does it have to be where I reside?

Yes, but do I need to reside there or just provide it?

I am not asking if I can, or for people to say "nobody will know", I want to know what the law is. I think I remember the shop always asking me if the address on my license is my current address so that makes me think if it's not, I have to have a gun registered with CFARS at my current address to buy ammo.

The interweb is a great place to get legal advice from a bunch of slack-jaw idiots. Follow their advice and take the consequences.

California Vehicle Code Section 14600 - Change of Address
14600. (a) Whenever any person after applying for or receiving a driver's license moves to a new residence, or acquires a new mailing address different from the address shown in the application or in the license as issued, he or she shall within 10 days thereafter notify the department of both the old and new address. The department may issue a document to accompany the drivers license reflecting the new address of the holder of the license.

          (b) When, pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 12951, a driver presents his or her drivers license to a peace officer, he or she shall, if applicable, also present the document issued pursuant to subdivision (a) if the drivers license does not reflect the drivers current residence or mailing address.

          Amended Ch. 1243, Stats. 1992. Effective September 30, 1992.

Look on the bright side, you now have a very good reason (for spousal approval if you need it....) to buy a new gun, you know, so you can have your new address to be registered.

So go get a update driver's license, then buy a new toy.

The address that's important is the one listed in AFS. If your DL is different than this, see if you have a utility bill with your old address listed on it that matches what is in AFS.

Take your DL and the old bill to the vendor, explian the situation and then ask them to use the address on the utility bill.

                That may work.

(In my case, my DL has my PO box address, my guns were purchased using my residence address. My vehicle registration has both. When I buy ammo, or a gun, I ask the vendor to use the residence address. I've not had a problem)
