Do they make a pepper spray that attaches to a firearm?

I was thinking about a question that was raised about a burglary in your home.

If someone was stealing your TV (and they were not armed) I DO NOT want to have to shoot them.

However if the burglar charged me (and I knew he was unarmed) I would like to have the option of pepper spraying him rather than killing him. One of the problems with this is the distance that pepper spray launches. Maybe some bear spray would be better.

Is there a pepper spray setup that attaches to AR's or handguns?

Interesting idea. I've never seen such a thing, closest is a pepper spray attachment to an ASP baton. Maybe some home modifications could prove handy?

Maybe I should invent a unit that will fit on either AR's or sidearms and that can be activated with a "squeeze type" activator kind of like the crimson trace laser grips.

I would make it so that it spray's 30 feet with a 5 second supply of spray.

The main problem with a propellant based pepper spray or any pepper spray indoor is that you have a good chance of having it engulfing the entire room and incapacitating you as well.

Besides that, your fine motor skill and decision making process will be way off kilter to be thinking about which "trigger" to be pressing. This is why you will never see a non-lethal and lethal weapon combined, there's just not anyone skilled enough to discern the use between the two in a high stress situation. Basically, if you don't want to shoot the burglar than you should not be pointing a gun at him/her, if you want to hit them with a non-lethal weapon than you shouldn't be pointing a deadly force weapon at them either.

It's just not a good idea, sounds good in principle, but in practice it could cost you your life or someone else life.

          Scenarios:

          - You point at someone (aggressive but maybe not violently yet) intending to use pepper spray and put a round through them because you only wanted to calm them down and thought that you could just pepper spray them.

          - You realize your life is going to end in the next 2 seconds, bring up your weapon and fired to realize it didn't go BANG and than realize you just pepper sprayed a guy pointing a shotgun your way, guess what happens next.

Both scenarios point out to the fact that it is a bad idea to be mixing weapons ESPECIALLY lethal and non-lethal ones. In practice I have seen a few shoot don't shoot scenarios where anything as such could have cost someone their life. One scenario when I was riding along with a local police officer. Basically events unfold that he had a suspect break free as he was handcuffing them, swung a punch and took off on foot. He gave chase but realized he was going to be in for a fight so he decided to draw his Taser and incapacitated the subject. The subject went down hard, officer approaches and subject lunged at him, officer than apply a second pulse which completely incapacitated the subject. If said officer had the Taser attached say to a pistol, there is a real high chance of him drawing the weapon and mistakenly firing the lethal portion versus the non-lethal portion. Your talking adrenaline pumping, in full sprint pursuit, which I might add is nowhere near as bad as having someone points a gun at you.

Bad idea. Getting confused in the heat of the moment and deploying the wrong tool leaves you in legal trouble or possibly dead. There's likely a reason a similar setup isn't used by the police.

It's hard to be positive a burglar is unarmed unless he's naked or you have x-ray vision. Charging at you presents the threat of great bodily harm.

                Very well then,

NOTE to self: If a burglar is in your home and charges you after you say stop, smoke him!

                  It's what the cops do.

Well, the British cops say "stop" again.

Yep...similar to the same reason they wear their Tasers on their weak side, cross draw or on a drop leg holster (besides not enough room on their belt.) They don't want to grap the wrong one in the heat of the moment.

If he is charging at me that is a threat to my life and I wouldn't fool around with pepper spray that may or may not stop the threat.

We do not have "phasers" with stun setting yet.

                            Get a pepperball launcher?

PepperBall Technologies FlashLauncher (100 lumen rechargable flashlight + pepper ball launcher)

                            FN FN-303 mounted on AR

                            FYI...
37mm flare launcher + tear gas = destructive device.
