Nikon to drop riflescopes from product line

The company will continue its binocular, rangefinder, and spotting scope lines, but it’s abandoning the riflescope market

"Dealers were told they could sell through their current inventories of Buckmaster, ProStaff, and BLACK scopes, but they shouldn’t write new orders, and they shouldn’t expect inventories to be replenished"...

IIRC I do have a Nikon scope with a lifetime warranty. I doubt the warranty is any good, unless Nikon has a repair facility for a product they no longer own.

folks needing a scope might consider a Nikon at a huge discount !

Damn, they made some of the absolute best low to mid range scopes for the money. I buy a ton of them for my plinkers. Curious about the warranty. I bought them thinking they got a great warranty. I’ll definitely be looking for some close out scopes. Haven’t ever needed the warranty yet so whatever.

        Makes perfect sense...

        They specialize in optics/lenses...

They make good quality products that they have made a handsome profit from for decades...

They are in business to make money...

Make politically expedient, easy way out, anti business decision...

        Good to go...

The Board needs to be fired...idiots
Wilson Protector .45, Springer 9mm Loaded, Franchi Instinct SL .12ga. and some other cool stuff for the kiddos...

It used to be all I ever bought, best bang for the buck ten years ago.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

I have a Nikon 3-9x40 that came with the rifle I purchased. Nice little scope with great glass. It wasn't enough for my old eyes, so I upgraded to a Leupold 4.5x14 VX3. I stlll have the Nikon as a back up.

Here's another CG thread on Nikon's decision.

I have a Nikon DSLR and a couple of Nikkor lenses: Nice gear, and the lenses are top notch.

It would be good if Nikon changed their mind, but I doubt they will. Too bad.

Why buy Nikon when you can buy Leopold, Zeiss or Steiner???

Because Nikon has good 250$ scopes. My range toys don’t need expensive glass. It’s not like my 7.62x39 AR will shoot better with nice glass.

I got standards for most guns but 7.62x39 ain’t shooting better with expensive glass. I got a nice Nikon shotgun scope too. Works fine for the two times a year I shoot it.

I’m going back forth between vortex for any anything electronic like rangefinders or illuminated scopes and leupold for traditional glass. Vortex does lifetime for everything and leupold only does lifetime for items without electronics. I break too much stuff to not take advantage of good warranties.

My personal opinion is and its only an opinion is that Nikon is playing it safe by not wanting to face the wrath of a potential POTUS who's paid campaign staff has publicly acknkowdged republicans will go to re-eduaction camps and maybe killed!
While I do not believe this was 100% of their reasoning I do believe it had some lessor influence !

"The undercover video produced by Project Veritas allegedly shows Martin Weissgerber, South Carolina field organizer for the campaign, talking about wanting to kill wealthy people and wanting to throw Republicans into camps."
