    ID and Pick up

Purchased a new firearm and after doing so I went and got new ID the next day. Didn't think about it then but DMV punched a hole in my old ID. So now I have a ID with a hole in it and a temporary paper. 10 day wait is over on Friday for the firearm.

Now I know a temp paper ID is a no go but will I be able to use my ID with a hole it and the paper to pick up the gun? Pretty sure I'm going to need to wait for my new ID. Does anyone have experience with that?

    typically no

your FFL might already have a copy of your ID on file....

you can try- I would bring your passport too
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

An ID with a hole in it is not valid. Depending on the FFL employee you may be ok. Turn around for my Real DL was 10 days including the day I went in and a Monday holiday. Went in on a Thursday, DL came in the mail the following Sat.

I moved and bought a shotgun once I moved. I bought my shotgun with a driver's license with the old address and a piece of paper I got from the DMV saying my address was changed.

        I had no problems.

I'd call the FFL and double check.

Thanks for the replies. I'll roll the dice and try to pick up Friday. Being that it's Turners though I'll most likely be forced to wait for my new ID.

Just tell them the lady at the DMV said you are good to go with the hole.

I've brought this up with my LGS and their perspective (YMMV) is that a valid (current, no hole, etc.) ID is required at DROS time. Pick up 10 days later is more of a check that you are you. LGS would know you. Big box store not so much.

For future reference, having additional forms of ID (e.g., passport, ID card [DMV issued, but not a driver's license]) is always a good idea, especially in rare circumstances such as this. Better to have the additional ID than not IMO.

Why did dmv punch your license? mine and many others not punched. Do you have some points on your license. I asked when I renewed with docs and dmv said only if points on license. I had just purchased a firearm before going in for renewal with all docs to get real ID.

The DMV used to take the old DL and issue a temp paper one till the new one comes in the mail. A lot of people complained that they paid money for it and wanted to keep it. The DMV started punching holes and letting the people keep it. Some of the workers punch some do not.

Perhaps a bit late for that now, but this is one of those reasons why it's a great idea to have a relationship with a local gun dealer rather than buying in some corporate place for instance.

My guy know me, an ID with a hole would present to problem at all. Just something to keep in mind as your collection grows OP, the cheapest places aren't always the best places. Please post here and let us know how it goes.

Yeah I have not been asked to show my ID for pickup in a very long time

That said, an ID with a hole should be OK for pickup IMO.

                        Here's a thought...call them...
Purpose of the ID for pick up is to prove that you're the same guy who DROS'd the gun. Shouldn't matter that the ID has a hole in it.

Should get that (...) button checked out. I think it sticks.
