Besides the obvious "we can't have nice things" I like it. Then theres the hell I can't afford to feed my dual 1919's alot and that .338 would bankrupt me.

I'm thinking that too. Supposedly, it's got more power and range than the 240 and better point target accuracy than the M2 at longer ranges. Streamline logistics and save money, definitely something the army would do.

Back in 2017, US SOCOM wanted a machine gun that could engage targets farther than 7.62x51mm and with weight/portability being lighter than a .50BMG.

They tested platforms in .300Winchester Magnum, .300Norma Magnum, .338Norma Magnum, and .338Lapua Magnum.

The .338Norma Magnum was found to feed from links better than the other cartridges.

They'll keep the fifty for hard targets. .338 bullets are too small for much incendiary compound or explosive for stuff like Raufoss.
