Who here HAS to tinker with their toys?

Ok, from time I have heard of people who do nothing more with their guns than shoot them, clean them, and put them away. I've seen guys on RFC asking for a place to send their trigger group to so it can be put together with their supplied Volquartsen parts and they were willing to pay $50 for it. I've been called an idiot on arf (**** elitest pricks) for taking down my Sig Mosquito to the very last part (hey, I got that stupid mag disconnect out of it though).

Now I know there are some other great tinkers on here, JPglee has been very vocal about his projects and ideas, and I was just curious who else just HAS to tinker with their toys? I don't know about you guys, but my gun is in parts before I take it to the range, or even look at the manual. I have roughly a dozen complete guns and every single one of them has been down to bare pieces and back several times, frequently just for the fun of it. I thought it was normal, but it seems like more and more it is quite the contrary.

So who else here just HAS to tinker with their toys?

I do, for one. Gotta watch hamhandedness, as my first impulse is to take things apart - even before I know exactly what it is that I'm doing. Luckily I've got a little mechanical intuitiveness.

I'm the bored kid in Biol 101 who can strip down and reassemble his pen blindfolded within 10 seconds.

Add me to that list. I collect a lot of milsurp toys and every one of them has been stripped down to the last part and examined/cleaned. Thats what toys are for to tinker with

Well I took lots of pieces off it...but the engine and chassis remained firmly bolted in place...I'd rather not jog to school every morning because I didn't know what the I was doing...hopefull I'll have time to take a mechanic class at a local JC this summer.

Does building almost all of my rifles/carbines count?

P.S. They are not AR rifles.

I work on everything. Guns, cars, computers, home repairs everything. I have worked on every gun I own except my grandfathers shotgun. I even bought a small mill to make may own parts. The first couple SRB's came from that little milt even.

I just can't relax if I don't have at least a dozen gun related projects going on at any given time. Old ones are much more fun to mess with, and totally stripping them down is the only way to make sure all that cosmoline gets gone.

I tinker with everything. It's just too bad that I usually end up screwing something up.

I've seen some great stuff coming out of this forum. I wonder if a company will ever form from the meetings of great minds here on Calguns...

I dont like storebought generic guns so I look for milsurps that have charachter as well as building up my own. The first impulse I had when I got my M44 was to strip it down and clean it. I spent two hours sanding the stock to get off the peeling shellac and it felt like 20 minutes. I HAVE to tinker with my toys.

That's usually the first thing I do with a new gun: tear it apart and see what makes it tick.

The day I brought my CZ52 home, I had the firing pin out and cut two coils off the firing pin retractor spring off in hopes of improving the trigger pull (it did, slightly.)

I'm a mechanic... I can't help but tear stuff apart and see how it works.

same way - i always like to "upgrade" my toys - my AK for example put a better pistol grip on (TDI), doube hook instead of a single hook trigger (G2), better break, custom stock and hand guards.
