Mini 14 Scope ring mount type Vs. Picatinny

Just a quick question... My mini 14 came with scope rings that clamp on each side and has a sort of key that fits down into a machined slot on the top of the rifle.

The rifle also came with a picatinny rail that can be fastened to the top of the rifle via pre drilled holes.

My question is, what is the name of the clamp style the included rings have? I'd like to find a red dot sight that uses that style so I don't have to place a rail across the bolt.

Rings are ruger style and various mfgrs make them including ruger and leupold. They will keep your scope lower to bore axis. I don't recall a specific name for them though.

Depending on your optic, you could also get a forward rail like an ultimac and mount your sight on that.

Thanks guys. Another question, it seems apparent now that I have to remove the scope to take the rifle down for cleaning. It seems like everything will go right back where it should when you reassemble. Is there any issue with accuracy when you remove and replace the scope with the Ruger mounts for cleaning?

I've never had to remove my scope for cleaning, but everything should zero fine. Everything was removable with the scope as I recall. Of course now I have the forward rail and it's really clear.

I like the Warnes for Ruger rings. There are also Ruger style mounts for red dots.
