I used to just shoot old Yellow Pages phone books to test the performance of different bullets but those are hard to find anymore. Any suggestions? I wanna test a number of 10mm bullets run through my G40 MOS.

Why not mix up some gel? -
I use a 5 gallon bucket full of dry cat box clay for a quick function test. 22lr up to 44 mag. I throw a heavy cloth over the top and shoot straight down into it. Keeps the dust down.
All the bullets are retrievable. *Add water to make it more dense if needed.
I found this to be cheap, safe and convenient method.
For testing CCW loads I use pig or goat meat/bones/old jeans,t-shirts etc and a small sand pile behind it to catch any strays.Comment

Look for Ballistic Gel. The clear ones are especially nice because you don't have to cut it open to see how far the bullet penetrated. The best thing about the gel is also that it will capture the bullet and let you see how the bullet expanded.Comment

Unless your smelting the Bullets Someone has info. Sounds like your just doing it for fun.
Pine boards , card board , we used to ask the Grocery store managers for a partial card board bail . Works great for a target.
Since you have a 10 mm check out the Underwood extreme Penetrators. Theres a YouTube video of it punching 2 inch bullet proof glass and looked like the slug could be reloaded. . Where a 180 grain Round hardly Dented it.Comment

1.75"plate of AR500. If it goes thru that you have real penetration with the bulletA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
