    My shoulder still hurts..

Went to the Richmond range yesterday to shoot the AR. I met a couple guys there that let me shoot their rifles.

    M1A Supermatch
    1903
    Enfield
    Mosin Nagant

My shoulder was holding up fine until I shot the mosin. That's got a nice lil kick to it..

The short Mosins, M-44, M-38 and 91/59, have a much bigger bite than the 91s and 91/30s. What ammo were they using?

It may have been one of the short ones, it wasn't very long. It was my first time to hold/fire one so I'm not exactly sure. As for ammo he said it was armor piercing rounds. That's all I know.

I still have an M44 that lives in the safe that hasn't thumped my shoulder yet...the 91/30 left me a little "worked" after about 40 rds. so I know the shorty is gonna be worse

I have fired Hungarian, Albanian, Chinese, Russian and some Polish. The Hungarian Heavy Ball (182 gn) put my shoulder way out of place in an M-44 with a great bore.
AP? it may have been steel core.

I primarily shoot the hungarian in my Mosins. The trick it to hold that thing as deep into your shoulder as possible so it doesn't get a running start at you. Even with that, though, I rarely shoot more than two packs (40 rounds) through it on any given range trip.

Most of what you listed are steel-core.

I doubt what he was shooting was actually AP. Some people assume a steel core makes it AP, but most of what I've come across is just a flat-tipped mild steel core (inside lead). And just because a magnet sticks to 7.62x54R doesn't mean it's steel-cored. I've got SOFT POINT ammo that's steel-jacketed (Wolf 200 gr SP, Brown Bear 203 gr SP).

If you're holding the rifle right, it's not going to tear your shoulder up. When I pay that range fee, I plan on doing some SHOOTING. I'll go through at least 100 rounds in my Mosin each trip. Real rifles need to be locked in tight and deep into your shoulder pocket. It's all about the right form to keep your shoulder in joint.

Once you go .308/.30-06 the .223 seems like a poodle shooter.

Putting the ATI synthetic stock on it (which has a big rubber but pad) makes a huge difference in how many rounds you can fire before you need to see a chiropracter.

Thats how you know you're shooting a Mosin.
Yes its all in the correct form make sure it is FIRMLY planted in the pocket of your shoulder. Easier to do if you shoot off-hand. Harder to do from a bench

Most guys don't shoot from the "pocket". I see them shooting with the rifle firmply against their shoulder socket OUCH!

I was out today pounding coffe cans with my M1A (shoots perfect unlike my AR10) and a commie .308. Every now and then I'd shoot my AR just to give my shoulder a little break.

I love shooting my mosin but I traded it in. Now I still haven't tried the replacement rifle my fin m38

Now, you know you want one of those mosins now don't you

Does a mosin have more recoil than a 12 ga firing 2 3/4 00 buck with a short barrel?
