    Phone number for CFARS?

    Hi Folks,

I hope that this is in the right place. I have tried to no avail to reach someone at CADOJ and or the CFARS department. I duly signed up about a month ago and received an email Important information is available regarding your Automated Firearms System (AFS) Personal Information Update Application. Please log on to the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) at website and navigate to the "Automated Firearms System (AFS) Personal Information Update" link, then select "Notices" to access your correspondence." When I tried to log in, I was told that my username or password were incorrect. I took a screenshot of my username and wrote down my password. I tried all the reset stuff, but it tells me that I am not recognized. So, I tried to create a new account with the same email address, but it says that the address is used. More nonsense from CA. None the less, I am hopeful that if I can get a person on the phone, the might be able to sort it out for me. Does any one have a number for them, other than the automated one that they have on the website? Thanks much,

Thanks! This one I have. I can only get to automated menus from there. Unless you know a trick? 0 and 00, and so on and so forth doesn't work.

Just have to listen to the menu. I have the menu written down somewhere at home. You'll have to follow it and eventually you will get someone. It's no fun.

Thanks, I did that and I tried a bunch of options. I've called several times. Today, I re-signed up, using a different email address and it let me. We shall see what happens.

Nothing good comes from creating a new account there, in fact it just causes more problems.

Now you will not be able to see the information update they sent you, and you also might not be able to make any changes to your AFS record now.

The best course of action would be to regain control of the previous account.

Well, I created the new account and today I got the "approved" letter. Not sure what happened to the old one, but now I have an account with a firearm registered to it at my current address. Not that we should have to do any of that at all, but I digress.

                  CFARS Log in Issue

Jeff and team. I am having the same issue with CFARS I try to log in and I am locked out of the account. I have played the automated phone tree game most of today. Was wondering if you ever found a way to contact them to get your account unlocked? I have tried the online reset process multiple times.

I think the Database/ Application has locked me out since I keep trying to reset but don't know who to call in their tech department as it is not an option.

                    CFARS Help Desk

I tried to login to my CFARS account and found my password had expired. I was directed to answer security questions and entered what I believe to be the correct answers, but they where returned as incorrect. After five tries I was locked out.

The screen said to contact the CFARS Help Desk on the contact page, but there is no selection for the CFARS Help Desk when you call. In addition, there does not appear to be any way to talk to representative. Does any know of a way to contact the DOJ to get an account unlocked?

I've actually called them and talked to a real person. It actually happened twice.

First of all, try to use a decent web browser and disable any script blockers. Secondly, you can e-mail them, they do respond but it takes a few days. Third, the security challenges and password are case sensitive.
An example; Security challenge question: Favorite dog's name? A) Spot. But you typed "spot". You may have typed "Spot" when you first provided the answer. You just gave the incorrect answer just then.

Still no luck after 4 days. No e-mail response and I have tried calling 916-227-7527 for three days. I even hung on for 8 hours without anyone picking up.

                              Hey guys,
I have been dealing with the same issue. Kept getting this error no matter what: "The entered information does not match a valid record." This was even when trying all 3 options:
                              "Forgot username"
                              "Forgot password"
                              "forgot username and password"

In theory you should be able to use the third option in the event you aren't typing your username or pw incorrectly. This was in Chrome.

I submitted a ticket to firearms.bureau@doj.ca.gov, got an automated (generic) response asking for my number and a rep would get back to me. Responded. Didn't hear back from anyone after 2 weeks, responded two more times. Still nothing.

Tried calling, hit a phone tree, didn't want to deal with it.

I work in IT so I tried the venerable "try using a different browser". So out of morbid curiousity I tried using MS Edge and I was able to get passed the "forgot username and password" page, obtain my username, and change my password. This makes no sense to me because the error messages I was getting in Chrome indicated that it was hitting the database, searching for my input, then kicking back the error that "none of my info was valid".

Anyways, I was able to get in using MS Edge but NOT Chrome.

                              Hope this hepls.
