    Guns in America

According to an industry report, almost 423 million firearms were produced or imported for civilian ownership in the United States from 1986 to 2018.

And this figure doesn’t even include all the guns produced prior to 1986 that are still in circulation. The total number has to be well over half a billion.

    Molon labe, gun grabbers!

The thing about stats is that it's not always linear. Many of those guns could be not working, broken with no replacement parts or obsolete (black powder). The fact is a lot of people are not into guns or just have one. Hording may be a more recent concept, back in the old days, people worked all day just to put food on the table, they didn't have discretionary spending to buy extra things. Some may have even buried them just to find out that they weren't rust proof, got senile, stolen used and destroyed, black market exported to Mexico and other countries.

I think any serious push for gun grabbing would be for semi-auto, military style weapons used in any recent mass shooting...

        Ha ha FITA

False equivalencies aside, if Hamburger University came out with a study that says fast food lowered cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes, would that be believable? Would they not have a horse in the race?

Some of these figures are certainly guestimates. Were there ever a buy back on a federal scale. It could literally break the bank.

Billions of $$$ in studies before billions of $$$ in confiscations oops, I mean buybacks. And buybacks include all guns... not just semi auto or full auto.

The government will have its own report soon - since $25M was appropriated recently to study firearms and ownership and crime.

Even if all those 400 and some million guns were still shiny and operational, that is less than 2 guns per American. And so what? It is people's (except convicted criminals') right to have as many as they wish to have, if they wish to have 3 pairs of shoes and a dozen guns, so be it. Nobody's business.
Anti 2A groups Barking up the wrong tree won't do anything. Money should be spent in educating and improvement of social short comings so that it would decrease the number of future criminals.
I'm old enough to remember days when people behaved in far more civilized manor with guns in most every house hold and not even a minute fraction of sociopathic behavior that we see these days.
Something has gone seriously wrong in society and guns have nothing to do with it.
