Do you really need a paper copy?

Can't any LE in CA just run the SN and see if it's registered?

We all know how reliable technology really is, being that every single terminal, computer, and database are always 100% functional......Yea, right.

A paper copy may not be a legal requirement, but in the event that a technical issue keeps an overzealous LE type from checking, it may save the day.
Can't hurt, just don't leave it in the vehicle after you are done, less some goblin finds the papers later.

This time, he should scan it ASAP and keep an encrypted copy in a cloud storage service. I keep copies in each rifle bag, just in case.

                  And, anecdotally, people lie.

Unrelated story. I re-upped my vehicle registration in another state. Was driving around and got pulled over. Officer states my registration is past due, I did pay for it but had failed to put the sticker on the car and I knew it was still sitting on my kitchen table, I explained this. Officer claimed his system showed expired, even thought that's some BS. Had to go to court to get it thrown out, the judge wasn't very happy given the date on the renewal vs the ticket. Cop knew he was wrong but wanted that ticket on his docket so he wrote it anyway.

I am extremely careful in regards to vehicle registration and stuff like that which draws attention. However, I can't imagine some cop wanting to go to court, unless it was strictly to rack up overtime hours. From the officers and deputies I regularly see through my work, it seems like a hassle for most. Don't know which agency you had to deal with, but I empathize regardless. Was it a smaller agency by chance?

This was probably 14 years ago in Indianapolis. Marion County Sheriff is my best guess at this point. Not a small org by any means but again, it may have just been for the over time.

                        They can.
Ever been pulled over by police, sheriff or CHP for a traffic or equipment violation?
What's the 3 things they ask you for?
All 3 of those things can just be looked up from the license plate.
                        They still ask.

A paper copy can come in handy if a rangemaster isn’t happy with a weapons configuration as well. I’ve had to show mine a couple of times.

Contact doj for a copy. And then put a copy in the rifle case

Haven't you learned? It's not up the LE to prove you're not in compliance - it's up to YOU to prove you're compliant. The community is much better served if they take your evil assault guns and have to apologize later if htey were wrong than it is to leave it "out on the streets".
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.
