as I have posted previously, both atf and doj have threatened prosecution for manufacturing ammo if students leave a class with loaded ammo .

I wonder what they consider "Manufacturing ammo" ?

If its putting the 4 component together then wouldn't all reloaders be "Manufacturing ammo" ?

I would assume the issue is that if individuals are being charged for the class and are leaving with loaded ammunition, then an argument could be made that whomever is teaching the course (who is, presumably, being paid for their time) is "engaged in the business" of ammunition manufacturing. Likewise, if the course is being offered at a business who is then selling/distributing ammunition and components which are used in or purchased as a result of the class, they would potentially be "engaged in the business."

While it might seem a bit of a stretch to the average person, never underestimate how a statute or regulation can be nefariously spun.

If i reload Just for competition then at least 400 rounds a month. 250 for the match and 150 for practice.

And the 250 rounds used in match is lost brass. So i would Still have to buy new brass

What matches do you shoot? All the ones in So Cal (USPSA anyway) allow you to pick up your brass.

that's all well and good when they told Angeles reload that, but they told our volunteer group the same thing.

Have you looked at the price if factory 7mm Weatherby magnum (if you can even find it)?

My return on investment has been positive for years just from the savings from a few chamberings (45 long colt, 7mm WBY, 45-70 govt and 450 Buchmaster) even 45 ACP is a savings due to bulk purchases of common components.

Having friends in a "sewing circle" to share infrequently used tools like neck turning kits helps defray costs as well.

My own reloading has been on the decline the last few years, mostly due to having a good stock pile of both store bought & my own reloads.

As my stock pile is going down, I am getting back into it again though and just added a new set of dies (444 Marlin) to my bench yesterday.

Though I load for several pistol rounds, the real advantage for me is loading for .41 Mag, .44 Mag, 10mm, and 45LC.

Makes one wonder, where is the Chi-com ammo? Every other country is making $$$ off American shooters, why have the Chinese not got into the .223 market?

They aren't using those metals to make ammo. They're using it to build infrastructure: wiring, transformers, batteries, fixtures, etc. China has been building infrastructure on a massive scale for decades. They've built entire cities from scratch. It's only just begun to slow down a little bit in the last couple of years. They've been driving up prices of the associated metals at the same time, steel and aluminum too.

But as for why there's no Chinese ammo in the U.S. market: Thank Clinton (and to a lesser extent, Bush II).

Unlikely. Factory ammo is junk. Anyone who takes their shooting seriously can't help but reload. The best AR clambering I've found, 300HAMR, leaves me no choice but to reload. No, reloading will be with us for quite a while.

"Need" is subjective depending on how low or high your expectations are. I reload my .45acp, 9mm, 300BO, 300HAMR and on occasion .308 for my M1A SOCOM. I don't bother with .223/5.56 because factory ammo is good enough for as cheap as it is.
