Sorry, sounds like you did not get experience at your range. Its unfortunate that some folks don't realize how important it is to give a good first impression of the sport.
The course you quote looks good. I don't know where you are located. In the Bay Area there's an excellent group called BayProfs that offer something very similar. I took it and really did learn how to handle a gun safely and the basics of shooting. Without it I think I would have made safety errors and got frustrated figuring out how to hit a target well.
I also made some friends at the class and I've been on many a range trip with them since. You also get to learn where the friendly & safe ranges are in your area.

PS I don't like cordova shooting center. they have a range Nazi that is hard to deal with and they don't seem interested in helping new shooters unless you want to pay for their class.
