    MGI Lower Receiver

    Hello All,
I found a stripped MGI Lower Receiver and was wondering, since they are out of business, if I can rebuild the lower receiver with standard AR15 parts? Also need to know if the upper receiver is a standard part, I cannot find any literature on these rifles.

    When did MGI go out-of-business?

The MGI website is still accepting online orders.

MGI was taken over by windham weaponry.

Is it one of the 2 piece modular lowers?
Most standard lower parts will get used.
The non-standard parts that latch the magazine well to the fire control module should be included with the receiver.
Standard uppers are used but they require milling if you got the 7.62x39 or 7.62x51 magazine wells.
A special bolt and barrel are required for the 7.62x51.

The lower parts are interchangeable between any standard AR and the MGI lower, including the various aftermarket triggers, etc.

You didn't say whether you have both parts of the lower (trigger group and magwell) but the Windham MCS parts are interchangeable with the MGI parts, and substantially cheaper. MGI is still operating, but I think has moved on to other pursuits. I have not been able to get them to answer emails or their phone, so I would not order anything from them or expect any warranty service.

FYI, if you want to change calibers, you can use any AR-spec barrel in any caliber with the quick-change upper. As has already been mentioned, the standard AR uppers will also work with your lower.

Thanks for the info! I have been holding on to a white elephant MGI lower without the magwell and once I saw MGI prices, I decided it was going to be a paperweight as MGI magwell prices were more than a complete AK-mag or a 9mm lower from other vendors.

Now the dilemma, should I make it into a 9 mm or a 7.62x39?

7.62 commie. It's a great round, cheap to buy and it hits hard. Millions of the dead can testify to that.

The MGI stuff is really neat, I ended up getting one off ar15.com with the Glock 21 mag well and married it to an Olympic Arms AR45 upper which really works great. Congrats on your find!

I got plenty of AK 7.62x39 magazines too.

I have the MGI lower with an AK magwell mated to a PSA KS47 upper. Seems to shoot fine but the trigger spring is weak and I have to find a stronger one to reliably ignite the hard primers on wolf ammo.
