Guns regularly resurface decades after being stolen, often far from the theft.
Now, with Commies running things here, it's a lot more red tape to get them back.

If ever you have guns stolen, make sure your PD sends the info to the federal NCIC database. At least you'd get it back if it was involved in a Federal crime, and maybe other circumstances. Once a year I get a letter asking me if I still want my guns on the list.

In fact I just returned from Calif Nov 4.
I go back once a year. And as the DOJ letter is dated Nov 8 , I only have 30 days from that date. We had tried to call DOJ then, but the number given advises you to go to there website. The website is a joke. Not once was my daughter able to talk to anyone. Twice the website wasa down, another time it was being " upgraded " and all privious information of my case LOST. She had to refile and new password etc.

222 brass , I have some but thanks for the kind offer.

In CA every stolen firearm is entered into AFS by the agency which took the original report IF a serial number is provided by the victim. CA AFS is automatically linked to NCIC.

"NCIC" isn't an agency of any sort. It's merely a link which allows states to link stolen property information. NCIC doesn't send anything to victims of thefts ever, as it's only a computer data base and link.

There is no need to do anything after the report is made, unless a victim obtains new information related to the location of the firearm.

The information will remain in both AFS as well as NCIC in perpetuity, or until it's recovered.

Being involved in a federal crime has no bearing on whether a firearm will be returned to a victim or not. That's just a fantasy.

That's awesome you got it back. This is a good reason to go visit your little girl. Get your gun back and see your family.

You do need the LEGR response letter from DOJ to give to the law enforcement agency. It has a big official CA gold seal on it so they may need the original letter. I just picked up my revolver that was stolen back in 2004. It was brand new back then but well used now. Still looks ok. Recovered from an assault in 2018.
