    Story doesn't make sense. How did he read your plate in the dark if your plate light was out?

      maybe he used that spotlight on the squad car and as far as a cop asking questions if he is not arresting me and reading me my rights then please do not ask questions because I will not be answering them. no permission to search anything.

        It's your choice to not answer, but that's doesn't mean a LEO still can't legally ask you what ever questions he wants to during a traffic stop, any other detention or consensual contact.
