The polymer stock negatively affects accuracy since it doesn't hold the receiver tight. A wood stock would be better. Figure on 1-1/2 to 2 MOA accuracy.

The front sight is so wide it obscures targets at distance.

Even with a scope, my SOCOM 16 shoots large groups. The SOCOM 16 is not a sniper rifle or a target rifle. It is a self defense weapon, and it was intended to be used within 200 yards (other opinions may vary).

If you want an M1A as a target rifle, then buy the version that has the components that will satisfy your desires.

Can I expect better accuracy out of a scout ?

Yes. With good ammo (my own) mine has consistently launched ten rounds into 2" at 100 yards using a decent optic mounted with a SEI steel mount. Of course, this is from a bench and sandbags. We tried to duplicate that with a SOCOM, but had no luck. If you want better accuracy than that with the platform, you need to look at NM characteristics at the least, and with high quality ammo.

Yes. You should try out the Scout. Its performance and parts have greater overlap with the full size M1a. Also, less concussion that the SOCOM. Perfect balance in my opinion; unless you are clearing narrow hallways. Very soft shooting with that muzzle brake.

With a wood stocked scout or Tanker (socom with wood stock), expect to get groups in the 3-5 inches at 100 yds, and that's with good ammo. U may occasionally get a 2-2.5 inch group but that will not be the norm. Easy mods are a shim kit, sadlak piston, and NM guide rod. Do visit the M14 forum where u could get a wealth of info before dropping serious coin.

Getting a McMillan stock for a socom just doesn't make sense.

I have a SM and Loaded and enjoy them both.

Ok so I’ve changed my mind I’m going with the scout squad. Now my next question is about bedding it can the polymer stock be bedded ? And I see a lot of people like to use the GI fiberglass stocks are they better for bedding ?

The plastic stock it comes with is garbage. Under sling tension in bends very easily.

So are the GI fiberglass stocks better , and more ridged ?

Better in every conceivable way, yes. Heavier, but that’s a good thing.

Ok I see that’s what smith enterprises uses on their rifles which apparently shoot sub moa.

Used to see barrels of them at gun shows for like 15 bucks each because they were butt ugly.
