P228 grip panels

I recently picked up a W German P228. It came with Hogue rubber grips that I want change back to original Sig plastic grips.
I ordered a set of Sig P228 grips and black screws from MidwayUSA. I installed them but there is a significant gap between the grip panels on the back. I’ve reinstalled them a couple of times to be sure they’re seated properly.
Anyone have had this experience and is there a solution?

Return them and get another set. I own four P228's and they all have a perfect fit. Also are you Sure your grips are for a old school P228 and not the new one? This is exactly why I tend to stay away from buying a used gun that will not have its original grips and will offer less for a gun without them.Last edited by OCEquestrian; 11-13-2019, 8:34 AM."Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. This. You need to examine the grips and the hammer spring base and be sure they are compatible.
When I upgraded my W German P226 to new style hammer strut and spring and spring base, and trigger bar spring, I had to relieve the old grips inside to allow clearance for the hammer spring seat and the new style trigger bar spring. I did this because I like the old style W German grips, but they are not compatible with new parts.
But any new style Sig grips would have dropped right on because they are designed for the newer parts.
Looking at your pic, it looks like the right side grip is not seating at the bottom against the frame, which could be because the hammer spring base is not compatible with those grips. If that is the case, your options are to revert to old parts, install aftermarket or newer style factory grips, or relieve your old P228 grips to provide clearance.
Since this is a used gun, it is very possible someone has replaced old style parts with new style parts.
Post some pics of the frame with the grips off. Both sides and the rear.Last edited by SkyHawk; 11-13-2019, 12:23 PM.Comment
