National Interest is an absolute garbage publication that posts whatever click-bait headlines they can think of to get traffic.

Not very high up on the journalistic scale perhaps, but the author learned something new, and had fun.

There was a Thompson model M1A1 vs the model 1921 that was associated with the mob.
I am assuming your hang up with this statement was thinking that he was talking about a Garand?

I don't understand. Is he being forced out for being an ammo-grabbing fascist or for being a failure as an ammo-grabbing fascist?

                      I didn't picture him firing a full-auto Thompson.

What full-auto owner would let a reloading noob fire his first reloads in their Thompson - ?

I just assumed he was firing a semi-auto variant. I never fired one, so I am unacquainted with the names.

Ummmm. The other M1A1 of WWII was an automatic carbine-not a Garand.
