    Sounds like FUD.
Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850)

I think it's going to be hard justifying banning imports of any kind right now, least of all in one sector of the economy that has seen record growth.

As much as some people may hate to admit it, the recent gun buying boom has kept a lot of food on the table for a lot of people. Cutting that off is going to just cause more problems.

            Yes it will happen!
I heard it in a gun store from a guy who said he was a Navy SEAL!

You too!?!?!? I heard it from some guy who said he started Seals after he left the 3rd SOG. Apparently he was in the Navy when he was a year old....

Banning imported ammo would be a logical progression from where we are at now.

                  Barrels are banned from import.

Ammo and firearms are banned from import from China.

And IIRC it would not take an act of congress to make it happen.

I imagine that it isn't a huge leap to call imported ammo, other than some non-military calibers, non-sporting. They could do it to other gun parts such as high-capacity magazines as well.

Look at how Saigas/WASRs come into the country and must comply with 922r if altered.

I think the Anti's (Social progressive Dem/Libs) have think tanks pondering these potential moves and they have focus groups ,including folks who post at forum/boards like this one ...

WHo would have thought that barrels would get banned from importation during Bush's term? think like the oposition.

The supply of surplus ammo has been drying up for the last decade. The BATFE has to approve all importation shipments. They have been making it harder and harder to get shipments approved so that only the largest importers can bring anything in.

Part two of the problem is the U.N. has treaties with many countries to not sell their surplus ammo on the open market. The U.N. is trying to keep the ammo out of third world conflicts but it is only keeping it from us. There is enough ammo on the black market that banning all countries from selling their surplus ammo would not stop any wars. The U.N. treaties are probably making it more difficult to stop arms trafficking as now there is no way to track where the ammo came from.

South Africa got in trouble with the U.N. because it signed one of those treaties and sold a very large amount of ammo to a German company. The German company then imported in to the U.S. and that is where our great South African .233 came from. The sale became an issue and now South Africa is demilling their surplus just like the USA does.

If you have a milsurp rifle in a caliber that is no longer used you should stock up and buy a case of ammo for the future. 8mm, .303 Brit etc will be hard to find at an affordable price. Buy more if you have room and the money. Before anybody says anything about hoarding this is different than the guys who are hoarding 9mm and 223. That stuff is still made and will be here next year. The milsurp in obsolete calibers will not.

+1. In addition to all you mention, some of the eastern european nations that haven't signed on to the UN treaties have drastically increased prices to the point that importers are hesitant to buy it.
