I like the PWS AK style piston, it’s almost a one with the carrier. They come with an adjustable block and also nice handguards. I’m sure it’s a whole upper minus the sights.

Best Piston AR Upper

I owned the original PWS version back in the mid to late 90's and it was fantastic. Super clean in the receiver and the only carbon I really needed to clean out was in the piston area. It was coupled with the cheese grader LaRue rail which certainly cut down on the recoil.Comment

Short stroke: BRN-180. AR-18 recoil spring system so there's no carrier tilt. A different Stoner upper to go with your Stoner lower. Looks different.I am looking for a piston driven upper to throw on a new build. I have been hearing so many different opinions on what I should get and wanted to see what opinions here are. This is just for fun/range toy. I was looking at adams arms and primary weapons systems so far but I know there are a lot of other options. I'm sure this has been discussed before but what I've found seems to be outdated.
Long stroke: Faxon ARAK. AK gas piston. AR bolt. Looks different.
Neither needs an AR buffer tube so both work with folding stocks on fixed magazine builds.
Cheap, super deluxe, or somewhere between: Adams Arms piston kit. $199 for fixed gas, $269 adjustable. Pair with your favorite stripped upper, barrel, and rail.

Why do you want a piston?Comment

The primary cost savings of the PWS Pro uppers come from the use of upper receivers that are extruded rather than forged, standard A2 flash hiders rather than a PWS compensator, and a slightly different finish for the bolt - though the piston system itself is the same for all PWS uppers.LWRC and LMT are a bit out of budget.
Do you know anything about the PWS MK1 Pro? It is affordable and looks solid although I can't figure out why it's so much cheaper than the other ones they sell? This is the one I was looking atComment

I owned a Gen III POF-415 for a few years. Smooth running - no complaints, FWIW.

I've got a couple Adams Arms piston guns... A complete factory 16" carbine upper and a kit build 18" Middy...... Both have been flawless so far.
Best, IDK..... But a solid value 4sure, worth the $Comment

Anyone have and like the T91 upper from Wolf?Comment

For under 1k PWS is pretty good,
if you want cheaper Adams Arms isnt bad with some mods. The Wolf A1/ T91 is pretty good one too.NRA Endowment Life Member

I have one, I like it. No carrier tilt problems. I wish Mlok or keymod replacement handguards were more commonly available but otherwise no complaints.
edit: nevermind, I see the Mlok handguards are back in stock.
