I just ordered one of these. does anyone have any experience / reviews with this model or fenix in general?? I've seen good talks about them, but was just wondering how they stack up to the competition.

I was gonna go with the TA10, but I liked the hours of use on this one and the different settings.

I have the TK11 and the LD10. The TK11 is rock solid, not a single complaint. The LD10 has a great form factor, but I think they botched the processor design. It behaves oddly at times and I know its not the tail cap. They have a lifetime warranty, so if it dies I will send it in for repair. In general, Fenix designs and builds them well.

I have the TK11 as well as some other Fenix lights and they have all proven to be very durable, extremely bright, and reasonably priced.

I'm definitely a fan and after playing with both Surefires and Fenix' side by side, for the money, the Fenix is a great deal.

Im looking at getting their newest one, the TK40.. that thing looks like a beast..

A bit of a thread jack, but can someone recommend a rechargeable all purpose light (preferably LED for the extended run time).

I am aware of the Streamlight Stinger LED. ANyone have personal experience with it?

Any other suggestions?

Fenix lights are typically LED's. Get a rechargable li-ion battery - 18650 (its like 2 cr123's stuck together). That's what I run for both my Surefire U2 and TK11. Works like a charm and its like they say, "free lumens"- it's so cheap.

I prefer this option over straight rechargable as I can run either regular CR123's if I need to or if I have time, I can charge my 18650 li-ion and use that. Also, by doing this, Im not worried about replacing rechargables as much. The 18650s are inexpensive and if I somehow damage them from improper use (overcharge/under charge/shortened life cycle) then I just get a new one for cheap. Something to think about if you go with a dedicated rechargable.

there is some 18650s that are 2600 mah
rechargeable is the way to go. I got tired of buying 50 cells at a time watching 50-100$ go in a year.

Not that model, but I have an LD20, and it's awesome. 4 light levels (9, 47, 94, and 180 lumens), plus SOS and strobe flash modes. I can't believe they can squeeze so much light from 2 AA batteries. Flashlights sure have come a long ways.

Quality-wise, it feels very solid. I'm glad I kept procrastinating on buying a quality light until Fenix came out. I could have spent twice as much on a Surefire, for the same amount of light (or less).

My favorite general-purpose lights are the Fenix P2D/P3D and L1D/L2D (now replaced with the PD20/PD30 and LD10, dunno if there's an LD20). They don't have a tactical switch or user interface, but for daily use, they're great.

I've also got a TK11 tac light, and have been testing it on a 12 gauge with no problems so far. It's definitely a better value than SF.

For general purpose lights:

If you want to use CR123 or the equivalent rechargables, the single cell P2D is a nearly perfect pocket light - small and powerful, with a wide range of outputs and runtime tradeoffs. The double cell P3D is good for a house/car light, with more output and runtime.

If you want to use commonly available AAs and equivalents, the L1D and L2D are good. The single cell L1D doesn't get the max brightness - turbo is only slightly brighter than high - but is compact and has good runtime. The double cell L2D is a good bit brighter at the top end.

I've been going with the AA versions for the emergency and car kits, and loading them with lithium batteries, on the theory that AA batteries will be in much better supply in an emergency, or if the batteries need replacements out on the road.

I also carried almost all AA gear on a backpacking trip last weekend, with the same thought - this minimized the spare batteries I needed, and kept it down to one battery type except for my AAA headlamp.

There are lots of other good brands that use the same form factor and have similar output, but Fenix has great runtime performance, and I've been carrying and testing them long enough that I feel comfortable with them. I can also buy several Fenix for the price of one SF, and when I'm outfitting every room in the house and all the car kits, that really adds up.

I do not have any operational incandescent flashlights. ALL my combat and personal use lights are LED....and 90% of those are Fenix.
I was recently up in gold country (Georgetown), and at night took all my lights out to play in the near total dark of the forest....OMG these things turn night into day. In the daytime, I could see about 200' through the trees to a fenceline, so that was my referrence target
The P3D seriously surprised me. I knew it put out terrific light for a single AA, but I've only used it under city or security light conditons (in Iraq). Absolutely brighter and with more throw than my 4 cell Maglight (which normally sports an LED, but I put in a "magstar" to compare).
The TK11's simply blazed like a small sun in my hand. The reflection lighting up the trees BEHIND me.
The Cree tri-LED, 500+ lumen head (4seven.com) for the 6-D Maglight simply turned night into day, shut off streetlights, powered the new solar cells on the space station, made the owls stop hooting, and attracted Mothera from its island sanctuary....(the two girls were not amused).
So yes, buy Fenix, be happy, amuse and scare your neighbors

use a fenix ld20 on duty as my main searchin' for stuff/people light with a couple of streamlights for backup and a surefire x300 on the gun... love the fenix... love AA batteries... love the light
