    Discount ffl transfer

    Hello.

I am inheriting a half dozen firearms from out of state. Some are curio guns, more than fifty years old, others are more modern revolvers, and a small (legal length) shotgun and a .22 lever action rifle. All should be legal to posses in California.
From what I understand they all need to be shipped to an ffl from an ffl, which is no problem as the executor of the estate will be doing that.

I was shocked to learn that gun stores near me want $100 per gun for the transfer, plus the $25 for the background check, which must be done once per 30 days for the hand gun.

Of course if this was a private party transfer, the transfer fee is only $10 plus background check, but that cant be done as my uncle is deceased.

If there an ffl around that does the transfer for less than $100? I live on the mid peninsula between san fransisco and san jose.

The transfer fee of $100 is way too expensive. since there are six guns, I know the paper work needs to be done six times, but the only difference between the transfers is the gun model and serial numbers.

Can folks recommend a more econonical alternative?

Federal laws allows the transfer of firearms that are bequest to an individual without the use of a FFL (left to you in a will) . However, that being said, I believe CA puts a further restriction on this, that it must be from an immediate family, which is a parent, child or grandparent.

More knowledgeable folks will be along to correct or confirm this.

If Im correct, that once again CA screws you over federal law, then yes you'll need to find a cheaper FFL .

Primos Tactical in Walnut creek does PPT’s for $35- cheapest I’ ve seen... I bet they are cheaper than many of the other shops for what you’re trying to do.

Might not be worth it dealing with traffic and the fuel cost coming from the peninsula though

Try the FFL forum, IIRC there was a list there at one time

The executor can probably ship them to your ffl, no ffl needed on his end.

No requirement that ffl has to ship. Only some ffls require it do not use them. If you are in socal cheapest transfer are at ace pawn Covina, right to keep and bear arms Burbank, shootsocal in Buena park. 25-40 bucks transfers. OP clearly given bad info from someone. Multiple firearms can go on same paperwork . Not 6 docs to fill out. OP should not hide location hard to help him. At least post what county you are in. Since it was your uncle and not father, grandfather maybe roster applies to handguns. Long guns not problems or c&r handguns.

Not only that PPT cost is set by law at $35.

Anything off roster isn't going to happen, so make sure that any handguns are on the roster or exempt from it before proceeding.

You can call around and see if someone will reduce their fees. If you mean $100 total for all six guns plus DROS, that's pretty reasonable. If you mean $100 per gun, typically you can find someone who would do $100 for the first and then like $10-20 for the remaining.
