    Tinnitus acting up

Been working on 7mm Weatherby loads wearing foam plugs and muffs but still got ringing in the ears. So bad it's hard to sleep.

I sleep with a fan on, prevention of the damage in the first place is key. I always wear ear pro when on the motorcycle or at work, but a couple of deployments with numerous patient loads into running aircraft have left me with a constant ringing, despite wearing dual protection.

Damage is cumulative, so indeed wear more than you think you need. When you get older, you'll be thankful to your younger self for it.

I have started doubling up with custom plugs and muffs on top. Each pair is rated more than enough for casual use, yet I can easily tell the difference when wearing both. Also, it eliminates "leakage" when either plugs are slightly off or glasses make a small crease in the gel pad - both can let extra sound in, but it's virtually eliminated when wearing both.

Shoot outdoors when possible, always double ear pro
        Limit caffeine, alcohol, stress
sleep with a fan or white-noise generator

Am I missing anything? I feel your pain and wish there was a cure.

OP, I assume you have been checked out for other possible medical causes or exacerbating factors in regard to your tinnitus? TMJ issues can exacerbate tinnitus.
My primary care MD thinks, in my case, TMJ is a "component" of my tinnitus.

Damage is irreversible. When I was younger I was invincible, so I didn't always use hearing protection. Now I always hear ringing.

Generally I can live with it. At night, when I am trying to sleep, however, it gets to me. I have to have a TV on slightly to drown it out.

As has been stated above, PLEASE PROTECT YOUR HEARING WHEN YOU ARE YOUNGER!

3 rounds of 10 MM in am enclosed metal building pretty much burned out my tinnitus.

The other participant in that study has severe side effects so I don't recommend it unless in protection of life and limb.

Get a pair tinnitus blocking aids.
The audiologist will match the frequency with the sound and It will eliminate that ring

Cover your ears with the palms of your hands. With your fingertips, tap the back of your head like a drum at the triangle between the base of the neck and the two sides of the back base of the skull. It should sound like a drum in your head. Do this for about 30 seconds. Let me know if that helps.

                      This may help:

Years ago, they tried to cure some tinnitus by cutting off the ears from the brain, didn't work. You can't remove the damage, but you can work on the brain part.
