    Mike Adams

3 essential firearms every man should own!
Recently, a deranged leftist (pardon the redundancy) got angry with me for talking publicly about my

"My answer will surprise many readers and it will likely disappoint a few. However, there are actually only three firearms each man must have in order to fully identify and function as a man. They follow in their exact order of importance:"..

Mike I enjoyed the column you wrote and I do own an 870 ! I do disagree it is best for home defense, based on the logic they will hear the round chambered and flee. My logic is they will hear the bolt slam on a self loader and it will have the same effect. The advantage is, the self loader is much faster after the 1st round is fired.

"I always prefer a pump shotgun because the sound of it racking is potentially enough to keep from having to use deadly force."

Well if you break into my house looking for trouble you won't get that luxury, my shotgun is already racked so that's not going be the first sound you hear out of it. Might be the second...

His choices are valid, but I personally like a lever action .22 rifle like a Henry or a Win 9422 rather than the 10/22.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

Exactly. What defensive minded person wouldn't keep one in the chamber at all times

Well if the pump racking is the second sound they hear doesn't mean you missed?

The only sound anyone will hear after a 12ga goes off indoors is ringing in their ears

But for the record, the Benelli goes click clack when I charge it.

Any combination of three of my armory will I keep in the house: A 1911, an 18" 870 and a 6-lb, 16" .357 lever carbine.

The only firearms I keep with a round chambered are my 1911s (and perhaps a revolver featuring a transfer-bar or hammer-block safety). The rest remain in Condition Three: full mag, empty chamber, hammer down. These would be my 870s or my revolver-caliber lever carbines. While there are several, it is a blued, 16" .357 Rossi 92 that serves in the home defense role for it's light weight, it's "friendliness" and easy handling.

•Condition Four: Chamber empty, no magazine, hammer down.
•Condition Three: Chamber empty, full magazine, hammer down.
•Condition Two: Round chambered, full magazine, hammer down.
•Condition One: Round chambered, full magazine, hammer cocked, safety on.
•Condition Zero: Round chambered, full magazine, hammer cocked, safety off.
Depending on how long you've been shooting and what kind of instruction you've had, you may have heard of Col. Cooper before. Cooper's wisdom has been

The above list of carry condition concerns handguns, but will apply to long guns too. Since there is no exernal hammer on an 870, racking the action serves to cock the internal hammer.

My reasoning for my long guns' Condition Three in my home is so they're drop safe. Kids have flown the co0p.

If you are not a trend follower the 10 22 is not that great. Very fussy on what ammo to feed it. I love my 150 dollar Savage 22. forged receiver and a snap to clean.
