Who is the top US gun mfr?

So who is the top US gun manufacturer that supplies the government & civilians? Kind of like how H&K is to Germany or FN is to Belgium.

    There isn't just one.

US Gov/Mil/LE has contracts with many different manufacturers.

What does "top" mean? Largest qty? Largest dollar sales? Most employees? Most $$ mil sales? Most $$ civ sales? For that matter, what does the US part mean? Because Beretta, Glock, FNH, etc all have US factories. So do they count as a US gun mfg? Now what do you define as "government"? The stuff the Army buys isn't necessarily the same as what the Ames, IA PD buys. And finally, what do you define as a gun? Because I'm guessing that the DOD has spent more with BAE Systems on railgun research than they've spent on FNH buying M240s.

I'd have to say for the civilian market Ruger. They make every type of gun. They do have some off shore government sales. Select fire Mini-14 has been a big seller. Even the Brits bought 1,000s of them. Glock is probably biggest handgun seller even though you can't buy one of their American made guns in CA.

At one time Colt was a contender but that was decades ago. They were probably “second place” to Smith & Wesson way back when.

But you’re right M1NM, I think the foreign gun makers hold the title as “top US gun manufacturer” now. Either Sig, Glock and Hk. If I had to just guess and I could be wrong, I’ll bet as far as volume sales it would be in this order or close to it:

          1) Glock
          2) S&W
          3) Ruger
          4) Sig
          5) Hk
          6) Beretta (maybe)?.. they lost a lot of the civilian and police market when the military dropped them, but their sales started to slump even before that decision was made.

Again, just a total guess on my part here.

If they manufacture some of their weapons in the US, do you consider them a US manufacturer?

HK - has a plant in Columbus, Georgia.

Walther - been making PPK and PPK/S in the US - currently at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

            Glock - Smyrna, Georgia

            etc, etc.

              Quality, quantity, or other.

              Quality - Searcy Rifle manufacturing
              Quantity - Ruger?
