    Question about Star BM

Hoping someone can tell me if the Star BM is considered a Curio and Relic.

I have been wanting to buy on of the Star BM that J&G Sales from Arizona is selling. They say in the ad that Californians should look on the roster to see if it is legal to purchase. I don't find it on the roster, but I was wondering about the Curio and Relic aspect and if it is old enough or can be purchased that way. Thank you for any info.

Looks like they were made from 1972-1992. So it sounds like impossible to be old enough to be c&r.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I want one or two of them as well. Neat little gun.

Not C&R. It'll still be a couple of years until the oldest ones qualify. But the vendors have what they have and I don't think they're going to check them all for dates if they still have them at that point. They might not have any old enough, in any case.

One of my buddies had to move back to CA from AZ for work and had an extra he got from J&G when they were on sale, and I was able to talk him into selling it to me via PPT. For $180 it's a fairly nice piece. So your best bet, I'd think, is to find someone who has one and is willing to sell it. They were sold in CA for years, possibly through the end of production.

Finding holsters made for them is difficult, though. I can't even find molds for a custom holster.

The ones they're selling now for $180 are not what most people would want. They are literally bottom of the barrel. By the time you add for a second mag, and upgrade to G condition, etc you're getting close to $300.

Don't get me wrong, I love the "surplus gun of the week" thing that J&G does. They would come to gun shows and bring a couple hundred of 7 or 8 different guns. That's how I got a fantastic ex-LE Smith Model 15 for $150, that was later stolen by a thief bastid.

He bought the one in my picture without picking any kind of hand select or doing any kind of upgrade for that price several months ago. Bore is decent. Significant finish wear and there was some rust in a couple of spots that I had to remove. A bit of pitting under the finish. Nothing broken, everything works. Runs fine. Shoots decent groups. Won't win any beauty contests, but as a functional pistol it is nice. I think he paid an extra $20 for the second magazine pictured. I think the sale price was $150-160 or something like that. He was surprised to get the box, rod, and manual with both that he bought. From what both of us recall, by this year the chances of getting one without paying extra from any vendor was pretty small.

My brother bought one just a couple of months ago from them and I think he paid $220 with the second mag, or something like that. Also got a box and manual. His is in similar condition.

I almost never see them for sale in CA and they usually have a premium when you do see them. I only kept one, a commercial bright chrome with pearl grips one.

Magazines used to be harder to find but they have come down in price. I also have a Star BS. The older Star B's many times are C&R.
