Can I build featureless ARs and sell them?

    Hello,

Some of my friends want featureless guns but do not want to spend time building them etc.

I looked on gunbroker for featureless ARs that they could buy but did not see any except some "black rain ordinance" guns that were expensive. I don't know what those are.

So it made me wonder why no one is building featureless rifles and selling them. Is it illegal? What if I started buying stripped lowers, building, and selling them to people on gunbroker or calguns? Is that legal? If I build guns for the sole purpose of selling them, do I need to be a gun dealer? Or is that legal as long as we (seller and buyer) use an FFL to do the transfer?

Is there just a low demand for featureless guns so that is why no one does it?

Definitely not until you obtain your FFL 7. Period.

Ok. Not that I would do this, but just for the sake of knowing, what if I bought a stripped lower for myself, and a parts kit, put it all together and I had a nice gun.

Then later I wanted to sell it. I could sell it through an FFL right?

But if I started doing this all the time, then I need to get some sort of license to do is as a business?

What other legal liabilities are there? I suppose if the gun malfunctioned or exploded and injured someone, could they sue me? Would the same go for if I just decided to sell an old gun I had and did not want anymore?

Where can I find out more information about this so I know exactly what the law and legal liabilities are?

You have some lazy friends. But on the bright side, if their light bulbs ever go out, you could charge them $20 to replace them for them. No FFL required for that. A few of those, and you could pay for the extra gas block you bought.

Nevermind. I googled more, you are right. I'd need an 07 FFL and would be very wise to get insurance in case my guns caused injury.

But if I sold one of my self-aseembled used guns to someone and it blew up and hurt them could I be held liable?

$20 for the first one, and only $10 for each additional one!

So, if your friends bought all of the parts needed and you went to there house to help them. Nothing wrong with that.

You can do that 4 times a year without a problem.
After 5, you pop up as on the radar for the DOJ and they will tell you that you need to become licensed.

Have your friend purchase the stripped lower receiver. This way, no resale is required. After that you can help your friend assemble it any way they like.

Whether your friend is present for the assembly portion, and where the assembly takes place... I will leave up to your imagination. But seriously, building an AR is not serious gunsmithing. Your friend could learn a lot if they participated. You know, teach a man to fish or whatever.

Yeah, that's true, they probably want to learn but the California rules are so stupid it's hard to know where to start.

Are there not featureless ARs at every gun store in California? Why wouldn’t they just go to the store and buy one?

Maybe I need to go to more gunshops because I didn't see any, but I wasn't looking for them either. All the guns I saw had the quick release takedown pins instead.
