USPS package arrived damaged and empty

I sent 2 mags from Norcal to Socal. The package was late and when it finally arrived, it was damaged and empty. They buyer paid me $98 ($45 each mag) including standard shipping which has the $50 insurance. I filed a claim already but wanted to see if anyone has a similar experience and how it was resolved by both parties.

I sent a guy a 9mm M&P apex match grade barrel on a sale. He claimed the package was damaged and barrel wasnt there. I claimed the $50 and gave it to him. In retrospect I think he got it and then claimed it was lost to get $50 back. Either way I don't care, it's only happened once though.

Thanks. we didn't go into details regarding the sale, warranty, etc. As a seller does my responsibility end once I ship it?

Not if you want to maintain your good score. You should have insured for full value then you could refund the guy without a loss. I suggest you refund the money in full.

When I ship stuff, I make sure to use adequate packaging outside and inside, and enough heavy duty 3M packing tape that it will survive anything short of a nuclear bomb.

You have to package it expecting the worst possible handling. And be sure that the contents cannot move. Mags bouncing around in a box can hammer a hole through or blow an end out of the box.

The stuff I ship could be turned to dust after being run over by an 18 wheeler, but that mush is still not coming out until someone takes a packing knife to it.

In my opinion looking at it from a buyer and seller perspective, if the shipper does not take out full value insurance, that is on them and they assume the risk for doing so.

Also, I only ship to reputable buyers because I don’t ever want to play the ‘got an empty box’ game. You shipped to a one feedback buyer, who got his one feedback in a face to face transaction.

            But my items were there

At least you can file a claim on it.

USPS stated they delivered a couple of HK magazines to my home - while I was at home - I never got it. They said not their problem - the seller said USPS said it was delivered - not their problem either.

Postal carrier was a new guy who wouldn't talk to me at all. Only lasted a few weeks on the route.

I got screwed out of the 100 or so dollars.

If OP had paid 2.90 extra for insurance and charged buyer He would be fully covered.

you guys mean that USPS is the one confiscating magazines for Newsome?

I ALWAYS take a picture of the package behind the window after the carrier has processed it. it shows all the proper addresses and the the tracking numbers.

This doesnt insure to the buyer that I actually put something in the package but certainly insures that when it left my hands it was in perfect condition.

Lessoned learned. Will do that or ask the buyer next time for shipping/insurance options. Thanks all!

I lerarned to add insurance the hard way. I pass cost on or maybe split it to sve headaches. I sent 150 bucks worth of salt water jigs and B52 bucktails to a guide buddy in Alaska when it arrived package torn open and only couple cheap salas jigs inside despite being bubble wrapped and taped with strapping tape.

When I sell and ship, I always insure for full value as I believe my half of the bargain is to get the goods to the buyer intact as described. For higher value items, I request an adult signature at delivery. Then I make sure it is packed gorilla proof.

I don't trust the USPS for anything.

UPS is almost as bad but slightly more reliable.
