My scope package was opened by post office

Ordered a scope from Midway and the box was clearly opened, and I could tell the scope box inside was even looked at.

Back when I wrote to Radio Moscow as a kid all my foreign mail came to me opened after that.

Maybe checking value. I had a 3.5 pound lead A2 stock weight disappear from usps. Visions of silver bars.

Vendor? Some sell refurb as new. Some might be resell gifts as brand new....

Opening or tampering with mail is a federal offense, much more serious than people believe it is. For example, one can mail classified material via USPS precisely because it is a crime to tamper with mail and there are processes in place to prevent it.

Just yesterday I received a package of brass that was "opened" on the side. After looking at it, it's likely that the box just got hit by a corner of another box during transport. Nothing was missing and there is no conceivable reason anyone working for USPS would risk criminal charges just to see what's inside.

Where I live,the USPS employees don't give a ****. They cover for each other- even the manager. Snitches get stitches. Must be recruiting from prisons.

USPS packages get tampered with all the time. Obviously tampered, not just "oh, it must have gotten damaged in transit". Like... a slit cut in the box corner, the interior bag ripped, and some of the contents pulled out for inspection. The most egregious example was when I had some reloading dies shipped to me and someone had pulled them out of the inner bag and inspected them. Probably wondering if they could resell them without getting caught and if the $$$ would be worth the risk. They just shoved them back in the box afterward.

Postal employees here are notoriously crooked.

A bunch of packages get delivered to the wrong address, some get put back into mail after the wrong person opens and decides to send it on, others just never show up... happens a bunch here in high desert area.

Not to me. I just don’t get my packages. Had over 50 packages in one year never make it out of my local post office. My buddy sent in a supercharger to get rebuilt n when it got to Vortech they opened it only to find 4 bricks in the box.

Maybe if the scope was coming from overseas they were checking to make sure it wasn't counterfeit?

but I think that's a real long shot.

I've had 1 package, that I was shipping through United States Postal Service, disappear. For some reason they made me
re-box the package at the post office and maybe someone there noticed it had Christmas gifts of the not cheap variety. (A TAG Heuer watch and other things)
I tried to conceal what I was doing in a corner, away from everyone but thinking back there was probably a camera looking right at me.

Or it could have just been a normal random stolen around the time when people are mailing Christmas gifts issue.

I've never had an issue with any other shipper.

The real thieves take things that are small and easy to sell. Jewelry & electronics are popular.
