    Mesh Tarp to catch brass?

Is mesh tarp more effective to help police my brass? Poly tarp works but it doesn’t provide the grip I would like when I run around and do drills. I’m theorizing mesh tarp isn’t as finicky, although I can imagine not as durable.

I shoot out at the BLMs often, and I’ve wanted to find a more efficient way to catch and reclaim my brass.

I tend to do a lot of dynamic drills and move about the area often. And in most cases I have someone with me.

At the end of the day, i have to start cherry picking or farming my brass by hand. I’m talking nearly a good 1000 cases per session. In some instances I’ve probably even embedded some of them in soft ground.

So what’s your method of reclaiming the brass you scatter in a small area? Say a 30x30’ perimeter?

Pick up spent brass with an Ammo-Up Brass Collector. Works on concrete, dirt, dry sand, and grass up to 3" in height. Easy push operation.

the other brass doesnt appeal to you? I always mark the cases i've already loaded so if I pick up 1000 cases I know which ones are mine. Its never a problem to come home with more brass than usual as its typically once fired and the people that shoot it dont know the value of it.

I used to use the ammo up portable case retriever but it was a little bit of a pain but you gotta do whatever you gotta do to get that brass. If you're using the pickup roller baskets expect to be weeding through rocks and crap either there or at home so its just a process you have to deal with for the scratch.

The problem with tarp is that it's static and it must be very large to cover the area where the brass is ejected. No matter how well it's made and regardless of any additional holders, it can only cover the area the size of the tarp.

So, when you're moving, you'll either have this gigantic artificial turf that you bring with you and assemble on the spot, or you'll have to do something else.

Seems that you have the size sorted out because your problem is the fabric, not the size. This means that you likely have a very specific setup with the specific amount of movement that allows you to use a tarp in the first place.

If that is correct, your best bet will be to make your own custom "hybrid" tarp, where you use more durable solid fabric in the areas where you don't run, and use replaceable mash in the areas where you want good traction for running.

Here is CED Brass Chute. Works great, but only for static shooting... The bane of all tarp solutions.

                  To answer questions above:

I definitely do what I can to grab all my brass along with other brass that’s left over. The particular BLM I train at is really dusty, hardly any grass. I typically sort through my brass first, then go after any other brass. I figure the tarp would help me cut down on bending over after spending a day in the sun running around with my arms feeling like gelatin.

I was either thinking of somehow linking smaller tarps together to achieve the area of coverage I like, or coughing up money on those large construction mesh nets they use as a wind/dust barrier. I saw sizes that are somewhat close, and they seem durable from the spec sheets I read. Anyone here in construction? Lol

I made home made “brass nets” out of a stick and laundry bag from the dollar store. I made one that I Jerry rigged to my forearm and try to catch brass as I run, which is somewhat successful, but gets awkward when I sometimes blade my face with the metal loop that keeps the laundry bag open. Or it loses adjustment, or my arms aren’t in the same space to catch brass. And with the poly tarps, the wind can blow it around or I’ll even slip a few times and eat sh** when the tarp slips from beneath my footing.

And I don’t have children. Or a wife

This seems like a good idea, it's pretty big at 8x12 feet, but expensive.

A brass catcher on the rifle does the work for me. A Caldwell brass roller thingy will pick up the rest. Some people overthink this stuff.

                          what guns are you running?

cause they make rifle attached brass catchers out there that mount to the pic rail on top.

the only downsides to these is that you ain't gonna be doing any shooting with the gun sideways cause you will dump all the empty brass back into the ejection port

for pistols though, there isn't a lot of options for a brass catcher that is mobile except the one that are hand held
