    COE Application Question

I looked up the webpage at DOJ that describes the process to apply for a COE and it mentions the requirement for a "Live Scan fingerprint impression".

I have a CCW and was required to submit a complete set of fingerprints as part of the CCW application process. The state already has my prints. Do I need to do this again for the COE?

Very short answer: Yes. One Live Scan is not a catch-all for every fingerprint requirement.

I tried the same reasoning/approach when I first applied for my COE years ago.

I found that the state doesn't care where else they may have your fingerprints, or data. Their COE process requires the Live Scan and that's what you'll need to do if you want a COE.

Of you look at the form - here's a representative example, though they're all pretty similar: https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a.../BCIA_8016.pdf - you'll see the "ORI" field at the top left. That code determines agency to whom any 'rap back' reports would go; every agency needs its own set of prints.
