    question on rail system

would a 7" rail system work and look just as good as a 9" rail system on a 16" barrel?
    what would be preferred ?

Its all personal preferance, and what upper you have. The 7" rail is for a carbine upper, and the 9" rail is meant for a mid legnth upper. You can also use a 9" rail for a carbine with a low profile gas block, but it depends on what you like.

well the thing is i have a vltor vis 1k 7" rail system and i need to buy a barrel and im trying to figure out.... as far as aesthetic look goes would a 16" barrel look alright on a 7" rail sys. i'm thinking the barrel would stick out too far and look weird ...or am i just over complicating things

It will not stick out that far, but if you would like you could have your barrel chopped to 14.5" and have FH pinned and welded to a total of 16". Randal at AR15barrels does good work at a fair price.... A majority of the 16" barrels have 7" rails, as the 7" rail give the upper or rifle a legal M4 look.
