not even my wife knows combo - she might use the contents on me ;-)
though she does have combo to another safe for documents etc, and in that there's an envelope for after I'm gone ;-)

MAYBE at age 18 if you believe them to be responsible enough. MAYBE.

And yes, I know..."it's different with my kids. I'm engaged in their lives and know what's going on."

We are literally talking about people whose brains are NOT fully developed yet. Does it seem like a sound idea to you to give unfettered access to firearms to someone whose brain is not fully developed yet?

Kids can go from being ok to not being ok in a blink. And it would be damn near impossible for anyone to know the exact instant that a person goes from being ok to no being ok. Hell, you may not even be home from work yet to even realize your kid had a problem today.

Then there are all their idiot friends who are begging them to, "just show me your dad's guns."
"Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Or, like my 14 y/o nephew who just thought his best friend was like his brother and never even thought for a minute the kid might be watching him punch in a combination...

Thankfully, that wasn't to a gun safe but to the lock on their garage. The "best friend of five years" stole his bicycle and my brother's skill saw. Not the most expensive tool of that size by a long shot, not a smart thief.

Same here. Plus, oldest daughter shoots Trap fairly well, & hunts with me. She does want the combo though. Someday....until then, I will not open the safe, if she can see the keypad.

My wife doesn't want to know it...and I don't need the stepson to know it.

Every time I think about writing the combo down somewhere hidden, I get the feeling that somehow someone will find it....cuz, well, that's where I thought of putting it and someone else would think the same . So it stays in my head. Do you guys trust to write it down somewhere?

                              .
Email it to yourself. Then if you forget it you can always find it.

Lastpass.com offers this emergency access feature, you get a lot of control who, how long before they can ask, and get it, etc
