    Trust...a couple of them actually...

Both my boys have a long letter written by wifey and I...that explain everything, have codes, combos, instructions and wishes in them. It closes with our well wishes and a description, best we could, of how proud we are and how much we love them.

They are going to be well off...but they will be the arbiter of that as We will only get to watch from afar...

Oh...the guns... get divided up based on how well they shoot them. I have specific instructions for the competition for each one...winner gets it.

California is a community property state. Your wife would get them all.

If you want to be legal or avoid legal issues down there road for the recipients, specifically bequeath firearms to individuals in a will. That way the ATF doesn't care about the transfer outside the parent-child, grandparent-grandchild relationship or the community property issue where the spouse has to them sell/gift the firearms via the normal FFL process.

Son gets a rifle and two pistols. He's likes guns but not a "gun guy" So he gets his Grandpa's duty pistol and the pistol and rifle he'll get will be the ones he really likes. (glock and a Colt M4.) What he carried on his Middle East vacation his Uncle Sam sent him on.

All the rest go to the wife who will grab a couple she likes and will sell the rest to the next caretaker.

She knows how to do the pricing on the 1911 collection and the rest.

She will sell them off to the next group of caretakers and do whatever she wants with the cash. She can run off to Aruba with the pool boy for all I will care.

Claimants can sue the estate, with or without a "good, formal estate plan".
Because the deceased and his attorney decided on who gets what doesn't mean everybody else is going to agree with it. When that happens, I'm sure the estate attorney will be happy to field the ensuing controversy for billable hours (until of course, the estate is bled dry, if it comes to that).

A "good formal estate plan" should include thorough discussions with all involved so that everybody knows who gets what and any disputes addressed before the plan is finalized.

Or, even better, gift to your heirs while you're still alive.

I need a good attorney to go over my will and make it as bullet proof as possible. I have wording that says anyone who disputes or challenges the will in any way forfeits their part in whole. This portion gets auctioned off and the proceeds go to a charity I've already chosen.
A friend had a living trust set up and the kids tried suing saying he was devaluing the rifles by shooting them. Being a good dad he sold them and dissolved the trust.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

I have a list of who gets what and my wife has a contingency plan in place to ensure they're all distributed and gone before the state can pull any shenanigans.
