    Question about 223 vs 5.56

Ok this is my problem a couple of years ago a started buying up as much ammo as i could afford and i didnt know that 223 & 5.56 was diffrent. All i could tell was that some of my uppers didnt like some ammo. I have sold some uppers since then and got some new ones and all the ones i have right now are 5.56 I have a sig 556 & uppers from stag, dpms & colt all in 5.56
so, sould i sell all my 223 ammo and just buy 5.56 or will i still have problems with shooting 223 in 5.56 barrels...... I need help from some experienced shooters Thanks

You should be fine shooting .223 out of a gun made for 5.56, but not the other way around. IIRC, the 5.56 have higher pressure and might damage guns not designed for it! I am sure other more knowledgeable Calgunners will chime in soon...

That is correct. Most people only shoot .223 out of a barrel chambered for 5.56 due to cost

That is correct and I can attest to it. You can shoot 5.56mm and .223 in a 5.56 upper.

I've only shot 223 out of my 556 upper. Never had a problem. The cost difference is what keeps me coming back to 223.

My Stag upper will eat anything.

its like blood .223 ammo is the universal donor

and a 5.56 chamber is a universal recipient
