    Doctors vs gun owners

Sorry if this has been posted already but yeah.

    Doctors vs Gun owners

    Doctors

    (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
    (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
    (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.1%.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of

    Health and Human Services.

    Now think about this:

    Guns:
    (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
    (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
    (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.00188%.

    Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.

We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

[Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!]

About 15 times over the last few years (literally).

And the stats aren't accurate and even if they were, the data is not meaningful the way it is compiled.. It is more of a joke than an actual commentary.

(just for the people who don't get why the numbers, even if accurate, don't mean anything, ask yourself this: "How many patients do those 700,000 doctors see every year? A hundred million? Two hundred million? Most people go to the doctor at least once per year for something. So, divide that number into 700,000.

You either have your English, or 4th grade math messed up

Accidental deaths per physician is 0.17, not 17%

From "To Err is Human" published in 2000.

As many as 98,000 people die each year from medical errors that occur in hospitals. That's more than die from motor vehicle accidents, breast cancer, and AIDS -- making medical errors the fifth leading cause of death in this country.
To be fair there are critics of these figures (Deaths Due to Medical Errors Are Exaggerated in Institute of Medicine Report) as well as those who defend its conclusions (Institute of Medicine Medical Error Figures Are Not Exaggerated) both papers are conveniently presented here: http://uwf.edu/sahls/medicalinformat...th%20rates.pdf
