    Mortality/morbidity

All right, I picked up my rake and collected some data from http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/deaths.htm and http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/2008prelim/table_4al-ca.html - feel free to discuss these

    Cheers.

Total firearms related deaths are 1.27% of all deaths.
I think that's far from being as bad as it's being suggested by our authorities/media...

Do you even know how to spell definition?

mortality/morbidity=Dark&Good researches mortality rates because he's morbid.

Thanks for posting this data for our consideration. I have always believed that more invididuals die in transport related deaths than by firearms...yet there are no cries for banning vehicles...especially assault vehicles....

I would be very careful with Dark&Good. A sign next to his thread title can mean something...

                  Mortality = Deaths
Morbidity = illnesses/disease (or more scientifically - any departure from physiological well-being...)
Basically Mortality = dead while morbidity = sick. Both are bad, one is worse. Steer clear of each.

i would argue that as a nation our population is growing so our mortality rate is actually lower, prob around 95%

Hm... I knew money is an obsolete tool!

"According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, of the 17,000 or so cases of pediatric choking in 2001, 60 percent were related to food, 31 percent were related to non-food substances, and 9 percent were related to undetermined objects. Of the food-related choking incidents, 19 percent resulted from candy or gum. Of the choking incidents resulting from non-food objects, 13 percent were related to coins."

                      Food should be banned, too

So basically you're 27 times more likely to be accidentally poisoned than to have a firearms accident, and cars are 43 times more likely. Funny how the antis who push their insanity as "safety" never point that out.

You should break out the firearms deaths by suicide vs homicide. There's clear data that suicides occur regardless of the tools available, as in Japan, where guns aren't readily available.

This makes homicide gun deaths an even smaller portion of the total, which is important when talking about gun violence controls.

+1 on separating suicide from homicide. I personally don't consider suicide wrong. You want to off yourself? Just make sure nobody else gets hurt.

Another breakout that I always want to see is justifiable homicide separated from criminal homicide. If cops or people defending themselves are responsible for 20% of those gun deaths, I think it's important to clearly label those separately as those deaths are a net positive to society.
