    Ship shotgun to CA or carry in?

    Most of my long guns are still in my homestate in the midwest. I've gotten interested in doing some bird hunting out here and was looking to get my shotgun shipped out to me. It's a Benelli super black eagle, which as far as I can tell is a legal weapon to possess in california. Now the question is should I have a family member ship it to my local FFL or should I wait until they come visit and have them bring it with them? I'm not sure what is required when picking up my own gun shipped to an FFL and how much additional expense it will be for forms/ wait times/ etc?

      You legally own it ! It’s not on any California list ! You can have it sent to you FedEx or UPS not US Postal service !

          You can not legally under federal law go and retrieve it, or have it shipped to you without passing through a FFL dealer in Ca. Feds will look at possession, since most state's allow paperless transfers of firearms. 18 USC 922(a) 3 is the controlling law here.

          (a) It shall be unlawful—

          (3) for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State, except that this paragraph (A) shall not preclude any person who lawfully acquires a firearm by bequest or intestate succession in a State other than his State of residence from transporting the firearm into or receiving it in that State, if it is lawful for such person to purchase or possess such firearm in that State, (B) shall not apply to the transportation or receipt of a firearm obtained in conformity with subsection (b)(3) of this section, and (C) shall not apply to the transportation of any firearm acquired in any State prior to the effective date of this chapter;

            Just have your family bring it or go get it.

              The usps shipping is shipping to yourself so you have to be in the state your gun is now. Go get it and visit with family and friends.

                UPS won't care and they will pay for any damages. FedEx will not.
