    Gun lock for every purchase

I tried to pick up my pistol today and apparently there is federal law that every firearm purchase has to have a lock regardless if you own a safe or not. Has anybody heard about this? Or are they just trying to con me into buying a gun lock.

What kind of gun did you get? Is it new or used? Didn't your gun come with a CA approved lock...if new?

It was my understanding that if you own a gun safe you can fill out an form swearing as such and you don't need to purchase a lock.

            FAQ.

            It applies only to handguns.

                  Hey, I got an idea.

For this coming christmas why don't we get a calguns christmas tree and decorate them with gun locks since everybody here has a collection of them.

Federal regs require a lock on a handgun when it leaves FFL. Any gunlock you already have will meet this requirement.

DOJ regs require a cash register receipt for lock (or copy) dated no more than 30 days prior to day any modern firearm is picked up. Lock must be DOJ approved. Other choice is to fill out affidavit of ownership of DOJ approved gun safe or lock box.

                      Here is DOJ link:

You can print you own affidavit blank form here:

Or send them all to me and I will keep giving away gun locks at my shop. I haven't sold a gun lock in probably a year and a half or maybe even two years.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

There is a bunch of threads on this one. Here is what the BigDog does...

                            1) Stop by Wal-Mart or Big 5 on the way to pick up gun from FFL... buy lock, save receipt as your FFL will need to make a copy of it.

                            2) Drive to FFL and pick up gun.

                            3) Stop by where ever you bought the lock on the way home and return it.

                            4) Stop by Panda Express down the street and have lunch on the cash you just got back.

If the state wants me to jump through extra, unnecessary hoops, particularly since I am a responsible firearm owner with a safe, then they have to put up with how I go about it. The lock is worthless to me once I have picked up.
