I watched a video by the gun guy - YouTube - and he said fuds at the gun range were taking pictures of people shooting sporting rifles - then of their license plates and sending it into the DoJ- is this true? If so how should we respond

Snitches at the Gun Range

stitches?
I wouldn't put it past the DoJ to do that to scare gun owners away from the range. It's not even a matter of having something prohibited. It's the risk of getting a knock on the door and all of your **** rooted through. And there's the inanity of CA gun laws which, by the strict letter of the law (not the intent), all CA gun owners are breaking at least one lawComment

He claims this is happening all over the state but doesn't follow it up with any facts of actual cases. I calling BS. It seems to be just a hypothetical so he can go into his spiel on making you AR featureless.Comment

I've never seen it happen.
My firearms are legal, so I'm not concerned about photos going to the DOJ. I'd be more concerned about some wackadoodle showing poor form and taking pictures of me on the range without asking. That's just rude. Don't most ranges have rules on picture taking? Complain to a range officer if it happens to you.
Following shooters out to their car, and then taking a pic of the plate? Probably a good way to get bumped from the range, and possibly a contact from LEOs. ( Taking a picture of plate? Looking for burglary info? )
Still, the whole thing sounds unlikely.

You got a timestamp where he discusses this? I clicked around the vid and didn't catch it specifically. I'm assuming this guy and the Daily Shooter should get together and make the ultimate FUD video.Comment

Sounds like something FP would do...

Snitches get stitches or end up in ditches.Comment

I agree this is likely FUD.
But, as an enthusiast and not as a lawyer, everyone who appears in public with a firearm needs to be aware of the myriad of transport, configuration, capacity, etc laws.
“Snitches get stitches” is neither a plan nor a defense. I would prefer it if everyone minded their own business, but you cant force anyone to do so.
The OP asks, what can we do about this? What you need to do is be aware that if you are in public with an illegally configured firearm, and someone actively turns you in, you are screwed.
You may not care. You may be jonesing to make a statement or be the test case.
But if youre not, just know you are in for some trouble.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. Maybe whip out your phone and start taking pictures of them? Stand a few feet away and take pics of them, their stuff, follow them to their car and take pics of that. I’ve found that most of these cowards, much like auntie fa, don’t like it when the shoe is on the other foot.Comment
