I decided to go out to the ranch and shoot some today.
Last night I found a (500 count) box of .22 caliber 69 grain Sierra MatchKings so I decided I need to work up a 600 yard match load for the 22.250 AI and I'm still developing a load for the 7x57 and I hadn't shot an AR 15 in a year or so ( I hate the fin grips)
Got all set up and put my 5 gallon pail with the padded seat down and the seat cracks in half (It's plastic and about 30 years old). So I had to put the rear wheels of the truck in a rut (I shoot off the tail gate) and turn the bucket over and sit on that. I set up the chronograph 10 feet down range and the 22.250 and the 7x57 were barely clearing the sky screens down range.
I shot both bolt guns for awhile and then a freak wind burst came through lifting up my EZ Up and slamming into the bed of my 6 month old truck leaving a nice scrape over the rear wheel.
I got the EZ Up tied down and broke out the AR-15. Since the scope mounts are so much higher on the AR I had to lower the front rest down to get my eye centered. Did I mention that the bolt guns were just barely clearing the chronograph's skyscreens?
For the first time in 34 years, I put a bullet through the plastic housing of the front sky screen.
On the good side I did find a load for the 22.250 with the 69 g SMK's that will reach out to 1,000 yards. And the 7x757 is starting to shoot the 150 g Partitions better with the higher velocities.
