Real ID Required 7/1/19? TV Says Yes

My local Bakersfield TV station just reported a Real ID is going to be necessary to purchase ammo on July 1. A gun store owner was interviewed and said this was not in the bill passed by the California State Legislature, this is an administrative interpretation formulated out of whole cloth by State Attorney General Xavier Basura.

Besides a Real ID, you can use a valid US Passport, Certified Copy of Birth Certificate and something else, I didn't catch it.

Is this true?

It happened to me today

I was at my local Turner's purchasing a new handgun when at the very last minute the manager told the sales person to stop going any further. I was then told of this new law SOOOO now I have to go back with a copy of my birth certificate as additional proof. I guess it took effective today 6-29-19 instead of July the 1st.

If you going to buy ammo and or purchase any rifle or hand gun you'll need this additional proof if one doesn't have a REAL ID.
