The Eldorado Gun Club has completed their new shoot house and I had the opportunity to use it yesterday at the Defensive Pistol Match.
The shoot house 550 sq. ft. and is built in a modular fashion allowing the configuration to be changed in a fairly short amount of time. The configuration we used yesterday had 3 interior rooms and 2 exterior doors. BGs, some with "no shoots" were in every room, with 4 more outside. Interior doors were closed so when clearing the house you had to observe which way the doors opened and their relationship to the room you were entering.
While we all know that house walls only offer concealment, not cover, it makes a difference when you open a door as to how exposed you will be to whatever is inside, or around a corner. Taking my time so as not to expose myself it took me about 2 minutes to "clear" the house. That's with no one shooting back. Two minutes is a heck of a long time if you think about it.
For those who think this is a rinky dink construction, I was told by the person who designed it that the ElDorado County Sheriff's dept SWAT team has already started using and given their approval.
Also, when the President was up here recently for a fund raiser, the Secret Service also used it for practice and were highly complementery.
So for any of you who want to try something like this just come out the 4th saturday of the month to the Eldorado club and shoot the defensive pistol match. It's run based on IDPA rules, but do not strictly adhere to them (John, the MD, likes to shoot lots of rounds
)
For more info go to the club website calender, scroll down to Defensive Pistol, and you can contact John. http://www.eldoradorodandgun.com/rangecalendar.htm
