I do exactly this. Opened a small hole in the fabric and fed the cable for my lock box thru and around the metal frame. No one has ever stolen my firearm from my bag in route.I'm visiting family back east and taking my favorite hand cannon with me. I had the idea of running a cable lock through the internal frame of the suitcase, then passing the hasp of the lock on the gun case through the cable lock.
The end result is that the cased & locked firearm can't be removed from the bag, and it's still secured shut. Unlocking the firearm case will free it from the bag.
Of course, if someone really wants it, they'll take the whole thing.
I got an extra cable so I could leave that one there. I use the other one to secure my lockbox in the rental car and at the hotelOnly slaves don't need guns
