Radlock = assault weapon?

Dude at Ammo Bros Ontario just told me he couldn't have the AK I'm buying in his store because it had a radlock on it therefore making it an assault weapon. I bought it off a gentleman that wasn't aware of the current laws. I should note I had the owner remove the pistol grip completely before he transported it to the store. It is completely featureless. I just took it out to my pickup and removed the radlock. Am I missing something?

The most recent assault weapon laws have made the RadLock and similar magazine controls equal to conventional magazine releases in terms of legal status as assault weapons. Magazine locks by themselves no longer have the power to remove a firearm from assault weapon status.

Having a Radlock (or any other such device) on a featureless firearm is legally irrelevant, mag locks are now legally equal to conventional magazine buttons.

There is a serious issue when someone isn't aware of the recent laws and still believes having a mag lock on their rifle removes it from assault weapon status. I personally think it deeply immoral to make good people criminals, especially when so little effort has gone into publicizing changes in the law.

I should edit to add that if you've recently registered your firearms to comply with the new laws (e.g as a so called Bullet Button Assault Weapon, or BBAW), then it is vitally important to keep the mag lock in place. At least until the law is settled, or unless you personally wish to become a legal test case (with all the potential jail time and great financial expense that would involve).

Yeah. I was pretty sure he didn't know what he was talking about. A featureless rifle with a radlock is still a featureless rifle. Guy was an ahole to boot. I was going to remove it after dros anyway. I just didnt want to be handling a rifle out in the parking lot.

I agree guys. It just really worries me that a gun store employee is less informed than Joe Blow off the street. Then again...I'm not surprised at all. Ammo Bros lost my business today because of him. Also they will NOT transfer a firearm if you have the "Federal Limits Apply" DL. I saw them turn a guy away because of that. Oh well.

Weird. Two of the rifles I registered as assault rifles with CFARS had radlocks on them and they were clear in the pictures. They even messaged me for further information on both rifles during the year or so of waiting for my final registration paperwork. They both went through just fine. Just like the others.

What's being described wouldn't apply to your situation.
