    Inexpensive Shooting Range in SFV?

Hey CalGunners, looking for any tips or recommendations for inexpensive shooting ranges in the SFV/LA area? Price per, and any discounts? Thanks

A Place To Shoot out in Newhall is 15 bucks. Shoot as long as you want. Nice outdoor range. Cool people.

Firing Line in Northeidge is 20 bucks. Indoor range. Again, shoot as long as you want.

Neither place is ever that crowded. Nice folks that run both.

What firearms and at what distances? Do you want to shoot steel? Rifle 100 yards, pistol 50 feet?

Oak Tree Gun Club is great, but not good for long distance rifle. You can shoot trap, skeet, and sporting clays along with a good pistol bay.

Los Angeles Shooting Range is also really good.

Place to Shoot has 2 pistol range with steal targets, trap range, clay pigeon range, a paper pistol range and a high power rifle range with steal out to 500 yards.

If you're going to make the trip up to a place to shoot you might as well just become a member of desert marksmen. You'll pay for your membership in 7 visits.

Forgot out dessert marksman. I heard it's a cool range. Cheap too. Fewer knuckleheads to boot.

Angeles Shooting Range, 600 yd rifle range with steel, couple of different pistol ranges. Never seemed overly expensive to me.

So clays themselves are allowed to be used as targets. I'm not sure about throwers, though. There definitely arent any provisions I know of so you'd have to bring your own (this assumes they'd allow it). They're generally pretty accepting as long as their agreement with NFS, or whoever they have a permit from, doesnt prohibit it and you arent doing anything stupid or unsafe. You can send a message to Jackie, the membership director, through the website. She's pretty good at responding quickly.

Desert Marksmen sounds nice. Anyone here a member? Can you shoot steel core? Can it be accessed anytime?

I'm not a member but I looked into becoming one. Not sure about steel core but you can access anytime. Can even camp overnight. At least when I looked into it a couple years ago you could.

                              I'm a member.

Steel core per the SOP: "Steel core and armor piercing ammunition are prohibited on all Desert Marksmen ranges. Ammunition with steel jackets or with steel cartridge cases is permitted." If I had to guess, theres probably some stipulation made by the forest service to curb wildfires that bans steel core.

You can still access anytime. You get a code to the gate as a member. The only real use restrictions, short of matches that reserve the range, are on the 1k pad. You can use it so long as nobody else is at the facility and if someone arrives while youre using it, you have to stop and move to the main range.
